Before Ozzy’s group arrived at the farmhouse...

Mike stands outside of the carport with his hands up, as the man on the porch points a rifle at him. “What are you doing out here?” the man asks, standing atop the steps, wearing blue jeans tucked into scuffed-up brown boots with a plain white shirt underneath an unbuttoned plaid shirt with the sleeves rolled up. He looks like he’s in his late thirties, dark hair, kind of beady eyes, kind of tall, active-looking guy.

Before Mike can answer, the dog is rushing straight at him as fast as he can. Mike tenses up, expecting the dog to jump on him and attack. The dog slides in the dirt trying to stop, and he barks at Mike. He shakes off when he gets up and dirt poofs from his coat. He is very friendly and begins to sniff Mike. After he sniffs Mike, he sees Olivia hiding still and he is sniffing her. Olivia comes out of the carport next and shows her hands. The dog lowers the front of his body with his butt in the air and his tail wagging and he barks. He wants to play with his new friends.

Mike takes a step forward. “We’re sorry. We just–”

“That’s far enough, state your business. Why are the two of you in my backyard sneakin’ round’?” the man asks with a firm hand on the rifle.

Mike steps back two steps. “Sorry... We’re running. We were looking for a place to hide.”

“Y’all do somethin’? Cops lookin’ for yas?” the man asks quickly.

Mike snickers. “I would love to see a cop right now. We were hoping we could use your phone possibly. There are people that were after us. We were in an accident and they chased us,” Mike explains to the man, as he stands awkwardly, squinting in the bright lights with his hands up.

“And you ran... Here?” the man asks, with implied suspicion in his tone.

Olivia steps beside Mike, looking up at the man, with her hand over her forehead to block the light. “We ran through that field trying to get as far from the road as possible and ended up here.”

The man with the rifle stands poised and ready to shoot. He takes a good look at Mike and Olivia as they stand there looking up at him. “Seems like my dog likes you two... What’s your names?”

“My name is Mike... This is Olivia,” Mike answers.

“You’re covered in blood Mike. You hurt?” the man on the porch asks.

Mike gestures one of his hands around his whole body where all of the blood is on his clothes. “All of this... Isn’t as bad as it looks. I got knocked in my head a few times pretty good though.”

The man points to Olivia with his gun, with one hand, like it’s a pointing stick. ‘And what about you dear? You hurt?”

“Just some bruises. I’m mostly just tired and looking for somewhere safe. I feel like I’ve been running all night,” Olivia says to the man.
